From Library Journal Since Cisco manufactures much of the hardware underlying both corporate LANs and the Internet, network professionals appreciate material covering Cisco basics. Practical Studies targets network professionals studying for their Cisco Certification Network Assistant (CCNA) exam, focusing mostly on the newer performance-based testing section. It provides hands-on information about configuring and troubleshooting a complex network using Cisco devices. Although the recommended lab simulation equipment is pricey, the book can be used as a study guide on its own; step-by-step resolutions of real-world scenarios are helpful both as study aids and as practice for network professionals. Complete Reference is a professional-level source on configuring and troubleshooting Cisco devices. Useful features include charts on product characteristics/capabilities and an extensive appendix that summarizes Cisco commands and refers back to lengthier chapter explanations. Both titles are recommended for larger libraries where advanced networking titles circulate. Review: More than just Cisco There are two kinds of people, those that take exams and have lots of expensive pieces of paper on the wall and then there are those people that actually do the work. If you are a do the work sort of person then this book is quite helpful. I have to admit that I just bought this book for some light reading; however having access to Cisco equipment the little dabbling I have done has paid off. I doubt I will be doing anything serious other than initial setting up. This book is a lot more than just Cisco. It covers the history, theory, and practicality of WANs, LANs, WAP, and more. We can not cover everything in this review. The book is broken down to four parts, [Networking Basics, CISCO Technology Overview, CISCO LAN Switching, CISCO Routing]. Each part has a darkened tab down the side of the book to allow fast access. These sections are broken down in to 27 sub categories that are further broken down in
